Sidecar Jazz Trio Reviews

I really like the guitar and drums, but the upright bass doesn't sound the best. I'll be forgiving since it's only the first version, so it's definitely worth your money!

For context I got this 90% for the drum brushes, and 10% for the bass. I don't really know how good the guitar is. The drums sound alright, maybe a little thin but they can blend. The kick drum and snare are especially well done. But there's a lot of issues. The brushes cannot swirl even though that is a sound flag option. The playback on it is busted. The double bass sounds pretty good but you need to specify pizzicato or else it's pretty choppy at fast tempos. The ride cymbal in the drum kit is pretty disappointing. It sounds quite robotic, the basic drum set's is better. Also for some reason they forgot to record a sample of the ride cymbal bell. Huge oversight. If you want to use this for a big band chart it might not be super smart as it's quite quiet and the cymbals especially. The crash is a whisper at best. But I suppose it's more for small jazz combos anyway. Lot of promise here, keep updating. Update: You actually can do brush swirls. You just need to use buzz rolls which is a notation I have never seen before for that. They definitely need to fix the swirl sound flag to automatically do it. However another issue is that when you actually use the swirls it's so obviously a looping sample and sounds really fake. Please fix.

Worth it for the upright bass alone, but also nice to have brushed kit (haven't tested it yet), and the guitar can certainly be used for some settings. I think it's a bit expensive for what it gives, but the upright bass sounds quite good.
