Description
Shimmer is Gooey’s take on dimension expansion. Like other Gooey add-ons, it’s packed with imagination and fine control, designed to reshape and enhance sound in nuanced ways. Shimmer features four distinct modes: Shimmer, Reflective, Choral, and Swirl. Shimmer mode is the most peculiar and somewhat elusive. It behaves almost like an intransitive effect—when the shimmer dial is engaged, it simply adds a sparkle, enhancing presence and dramatically altering the core signal. Reflective mode, by contrast, delivers a clearer and more defined signal through a combination of parallel and series processing. While it avoids chorusing modulation, this purity introduces a slight tonal coloration, giving the sound a sharper, more polished edge. Choral mode leans in the opposite direction. It’s slow, understated modulations create a flatter tonal profile, but inadvertently slightly dull the signal. However, this can be compensated for by engaging the sparkle button, restoring brightness and clarity. Finally, Swirl mode explores more experimental territory. Sitting somewhere between a chorus effect and a traditional dimension expander, it introduces soft, silky modulation. On tonal instruments, this chorusing can be gently noticeable, while on more tonally neutral sources—like drums—it often becomes nearly imperceptible.
